Interior Matters was formed by Sue in 1998, following many years of increasing involvement in the design and specification of furnishings for show homes and private commissions.
Our enthusiasm and excitement grew as did our client base and the variety of our portfolio expanded. We are fortunate and proud to have been allowed to share in our client’s aspirations, creating together some wonderful concepts.
The Design Team:
Sue Foan – Interior Designer
Sue’s initial career was as a Fashion Buyer for an Independent Retail Group in London. After moving to the South Coast and raising a family Sue became immersed in her life long passion for design. Soon she found herself advising friends and associates on private and commercial projects.
With a flair and enthusiasm acquired through life experience, coupled with a deep knowledge of traditional building and design practices and also a continuing appreciation of contemporary developments and materials, Sue has a formidable array of ideas at her disposal to assist you in making your dream a reality.
She enjoys collaborating with clients to define their individual needs, addressing the key issues of practicality, comfort, and style together with her own desire for perfection and attention to detail.
Guy Foan – Creative Director
After graduating with an HND in Graphic Design, Guy had a brief spell as a kitchen designer for a small independent retailer before commencing his chosen career. Working for a number of large Advertising Agencies spanning some 10 years he then went on to being Art Editor, then Group Art Editor for a magazine publishing house in Chelsea.
With a number of successful property renovations under his belt, gaining an NVQ in carpentry along the way, the temptation to change a hobby into a career as an interior designer was too great, and so took a position working alongside Sue and the team at Interior Matters. With a strong creative background and a passion for architecture he continually brings new ideas and approaches to residential projects. Currently studying for a Diploma in Interior Design at KLC.
The Studio Team:
We are also extremely proud of our in-house team of superb curtain makers and soft furnishers, led by Elaine Sealey. Our designs and their craftsmanship to both the period and contemporary settings have given us a platform to work on some of the country’s finest estates.
Stage 1 – Initial Meeting
Building a relationship and a mutual understanding is as important as visiting your home. We see the creation of a new interior, in either an existing property or a new build, as a team effort between our clients and ourselves. It is important that we interpret your ideas and preferences and include them in your home so it becomes the place that embodies your style and the place you love and call home. We will explain how we work, involving you, our clients, at every step. Providing estimates on a regular basis, so that you are fully in control. We can discuss timelines, procedures and practicalities with you.
Stage 2 – Design Process
On appointment, we will take a detailed brief of all the aspects you wish to include and the property itself. We will discuss various ideas and directions, take detailed measurements and photographs.
The next step is for us to present proposals of plans, layouts etc., and source all materials required for the project. These can include kitchen, bathroom and lighting plans, wall finishes, floor coverings, furniture and soft furnishings etc.
It is important that we interpret your ideas and preferences and include them in your home so it becomes the place that embodies your style and the place you love and call home
Stage 3 – Overseeing the Project
Project management is an integral part of securing the success of the interior design scheme. We manage all aspects of the scheme from overseeing any building works, manufacture and installation of kitchens and bathrooms, joinery and decoration. Over the years we have built up a team of very skilled and trusted craftsmen that we can call on. Once all the tradesmen have completed the works we move in with our team of fitters to dress the property and finally present you with your new, or newly refurbished home.

Interior Matters collaborates with builders, architects and contractors from the beginning conceptual phases of a project, to its completion. Through this coordination we make sure that beauty, character, and overall client vision saturate each part of the design process.
